It all begins with our water... (The Issue)

As homeowners, it’s up to us to fix our water quality issues. The water treatment facilities are only meant to sanitize the water so that it is able to be consumed. They do this with lots of Chlorine. A crazy fact is that most water that comes out of a home faucet contains chlorine concentration up to 5x the amount needed to sanitize a standard swimming pool! That’s pretty alarming! The problem is then compounded by other pollutants in our environment, as shown in the graphic directly below, mixing with the water and creating a new host of chemicals called trihalomethanes (THMs). These are all cancer-causing byproducts created just from trying to sanitize our water! The good news is that they and many other types of contaminants below can be eliminated from your water with our state-of-the-art whole-home and reverse osmosis (RO) drinking systems! You can also see firsthand what contaminants are in your local utility’s water by clicking the button down below.

πŸ’§ On average, drinking water in the U.S. may contain a mix of physical, chemical, biological, radiological, and emerging contaminants even after treatment. Here's a breakdown of the most common ones found across the country:

__________________________________________

πŸ§ͺ Chemical Contaminants

  • Lead – Often from corroded pipes; toxic even in small amounts.

  • Arsenic – Naturally occurring in groundwater; linked to cancer risks.

  • Nitrates – From fertilizers and septic systems; dangerous for infants.

  • Chlorine & Chloramines – Used for disinfection; can form harmful byproducts like trihalomethanes (THMs).

  • Haloacetic Acids - Disinfection byproducts; linked to cancer risks, cannot be removed by boiling water.

  • Fluoride – Added for dental health; excessive levels can be toxic.

🦠 Biological Contaminants

  • E. coli & Coliform bacteria – Indicators of fecal contamination.

  • Cryptosporidium & Giardia – Parasites that cause gastrointestinal illness.

  • Viruses – Can enter through sewage leaks or runoff.

🧱 Physical Contaminants

  • Sediment & Silt – Cloudiness or turbidity in water; mostly aesthetic.

  • Rust/Iron – Can discolor water and stain fixtures.

☒️ Radiological Contaminants

  • Radon, Uranium, Cesium – linked to long-term health risks.

  • Strontium-90 - Accumulates in bones.

⚠️ Emerging Contaminants

  • PFAS/PFOS (forever chemicals) – Found in nonstick cookware, firefighting foam.

  • Pharmaceuticals & Personal Care Products – Trace amounts from wastewater.

  • Microplastics – Increasingly detected in tap and bottled water.
